Put too many characters on screen at once with these older games, and every character started flashing and flickering. The "crowd" cheering sounded closer to a car running over gravel. Things were so limited that a scrolling screen was out of the question. Soon after, this one was given a run for its money with the competition. This next one was a valiant attempt to make a more realistic football video game. Better, but not great. That one caused a huge sensation upon its arrival to the video game world, and while it set a (slightly) higher standard, this wasn't the foundation for football video games to be built on. That wouldn't come until several years down the line. This next one reaped the benefits of the 8-bit gaming revolution, and people still rave about it to this day. For many years, this was the greatest football video game. Makes sense that it was so revered by the hardcore gamer - it really was the first true attempt to recreate the NFL. Football video games went to the next level with that one, due to the much needed upgrades. It's even got a presence in the gaming world today, thanks to its online comeback.
